Amazing Brains Therapy

Hi, everyone! I’m Kasha (they/them or she/her), and I have been working as a pediatric speech-language pathologist in outpatient and early intervention settings since 2009.  I especially enjoy working with clients and families with complex communication needs and sensory processing differences. I work with families to address functional communication goals from a strengths-based perspective. Amazing Brains Therapy closed our Chesapeake, VA location in 2023, and are now scheduling home and community visits in Charlottesville, VA, as well as telehealth throughout Virginia. I strongly believe in presuming competence and helping clients communicate and advocate for themselves more independently. I have experience with trialing and procuring Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices to support communication access, as well as teaching families how to incorporate use of AAC into their daily routines. Another professional interest is supporting Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) or Gestalt Language Processing. Gestalt Language Processors learn to speak in chunks or phrases, using echolalia (repetition of phrases or sound units) prior to learning to break up those chunks into single words that may be combined into more traditional grammar.  I am listed in the Meaningful Speech Natural Language Acquisition Trained Clinician Registry as well as the NLA SLP Registry. I am a certified member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and am licensed to practice Speech-Language Pathology in Virginia. I was a founding organizer for Family Connections: Hampton Roads, a playgroup for families with trans, nonbinary and gender expansive kids, administered by the LGBT Life Center, PFLAG Hampton Roads and He She Ze and We, and continue to share that spirit of inclusion here at Amazing Brains Therapy.
